Retrieved 7 August Retrieved 22 April The Division Bell. Pink Floyd. Johnny Reb , Jun 14, Location: Halfway between Seattle and Portland. I don't have an emotional attachment to this album, so that quite likely reflects in my vote: lower tier. There's nothing really that I would urge on a new or recent fan, so that easily eliminates the top two categories.
I thought about the mid level but I could only think of two songs to promote, and two out of eleven isn't mediocre. So, lower tier it is. Zeki , Jun 14, Solid effort. A song or two I can't srtand "Coming Back To Life" should be cleaned and burned but overall a pleasing record chalk full of Floydisms.
Feels like it was made by a band. This was the first 'new release" I bought on CD. Dont worry, I still bought the vinyl too. Daniel Plainview , Jun 14, CBC and pinkrudy like this. Location: Scranton, PA. Th e Divisio n Bell i s the better of the two G il m our Floyd a lbums because it feels more like classic Floyd. This isn't the first time I did the bolded reference, by the way. Location: Eastern United States.
It's pretty good. It doesn't stand up to any of their classic era work, but its better than any of their other post- The Wall work. It has quite a few standouts, but also a lot of mediocre songs. SurrealCereal , Jun 14, My opinion of TDB has only improved steadily every year since about when I first owned my own copy , despite having heard it only a couple times back in the mid-to-late 90's.
Do I think it's "more important" than Meddle , for instance?? Probably not. Do I honestly like it and listen to it a more than Meddle? So much better than the digital version I have - even through the same hifi. Reluctant to try a third copy right now - going to wait a few months then re-order in the hope it will come from a different 'batch.
Great package, a lot of care has been put into this product. Full lyrics on the inside, and each song credits the writers in order, which makes it interesting to see which songs' lyrics were more predominantly Samson's, and which were more Gilmour's. Sound quality is very impressive - this is the master from the original vinyl tapes, which searching on dr.
I was able to hear every voice and instrument articulately. Almost makes some of the earlier tracks on the album lose their "mysterious magic" a bit when you can hear every separate part so clearly! And High Hopes sounds overwhelmingly immense, as expected : On first playthrough there was one jump on the first side despite no visible marks or dust, which was fixed by applying IPA record cleaning fluid and a few rotations with the anti-static cleaner. Hasn't skipped since. Highly recommended!
Okay, so not everyone's favourite Floyd album and certainly had a Marmite effect with some fans, yet I have to say I find it an absolute work of brilliance and if I could only ever listen to one Pink Floyd album ever again, then it would be The Division Bell.
It is just a pure, wholesome album with some great, spiritually uplifting guitar rifts, great catchy songs and the whole experience ebbs and flows as naturally as a river. It feels very consistent throughout, with great guitar solos and good vocals from Gilmour.
The fact that we have just celebrated 20 years 94 - 14 since the release of such a classic, suggests that it really is one the great pieces of rock music, throughout the ages, despite the initial criticism. This album has been reviewed by just about everyone so no need to go into too much detail. The vinyl edition has been getting a lot of play since we bought it. Favourite track? The consensus is probably High Hopes. Fabulously crafted music with expressive and atmospheric guitar riffs the whole album almost takes on a meditative quality which foreshadowed the later Endless River from the a line in High Hopes.
The vinyl is a tape of two halves. A good wet and vac clean on my record cleaner helped with that. The second LP in contrast is perfect and sounds absolutely fabulous! A credit to remastering. So I love music with acoustic instruments so, I like Floyd a lot of people do! It's got fillers on it in the way of instrumentals now.
Mr Gilmour is an excellent guitarist but, that's no excuse for putting average instrumental tracks on your album. Written produced etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on him but, this is not the "real floyd"! Great as Echoes is sadly,The Division Bell equally isn't!!! Not recommended, try albums written by Roger Walters with him on bass.

Location: Leicester U. A good but not great album, prehaps a little mellow for it's own good. Having said that High Hopes is one of the best Floyd songs and one heck of a closer. Exitmusic , Mar 28, Location: London. My favourite album of all time. I listen to it pretty much every week, especially on the break of spring, exactly this time of year. I have pretty much every iteration of the album ever released and a mega London-tube-sized poster signed by David, Nick and Rick. My most prized possession.
