The teenage poetry can be found on most songs on this post-grunge album. With their uplifting choruses they created another energetic record. The one-two opening punch "Same Direction" and "Out of Control" shows their catchiness and some pleasant singing.

Look at it this way: If all of this music stinks so much, why do you find such an overwhelming amount of 4 and 5 star reviews for these albums? There's also bazillions of love ballads, especially with Sonata Arctica. We like what we like because our music is more lyrically sophisticated and is challenging to figure out. That's what we enjoy because we aren't doing a million other things talking, homework, driving, etc. And finally, I'm not aware of any songs you hear on the radio or songs by bands you hear on the radio that are inspired by events in history and things of that nature.

For example, Iced Earth has a something minute song that describes the battle at Gettysburg and Without Face has a song in which the main character's love is being burnt at the stake for being accused of witchcraft. This doesn't mean I hate this album - when I want something that's easier to listen to, I grab The Reason.

When I want a challenge, I grab one of my CDs. I enjoy both just about equally now. I still hate rap and hip-hop, but this album works great for me. Great songs, great music, just great! I never liked this band, mainly because of their terrible name, but when I heard "The Reason", I had to change my mind. I loved the song so much I bought the CD. The song material is superior.

They blend some pretty cool chords and key changes into their music, which keeps it fresh and memorable. Robb's vocals are quality and show much flexibility, especially on Out Of Control I haven't purchased a CD with this much quality material on it in a long time.

This will definetly continue to spin in my CD player for some time to come! One person found this helpful. Good CD from Hoobastank. I enjoy listening to it all the time. Hoob's new cd is nothing special. It's not bad though. I do like it. It's just not much of an improvement at all to me. I really like their song 'Out of Control' and absolutely love the lyrics and melody of 'The Reason'. Most of the other songs on the cd so far haven't done much for me, but like I said..

This is definetly a dl'r. I got the first album as a gift, if you like this one get that one is different but just as good. Dont buy this album if you expect to find all tracks to sound like The Reason, almost all tracks are faster and a lot more rocking. Hoobastank has great potential, and this is only their second major label release, they will just get better.

It's not that Robb's words throughout The Reason aren't genuine. Lyrics like "I'm not a perfect person, I never meant to do those things to you," "So what should I do, just lay next to you as though I'm unaffected? However, Hoobastank is still reducing teen angst over love, escape, or a higher power to digestible phrases, and writing sandpaper smooth rock symphonies around those couplets.

So it's a formula, and one that remains unchanged from the debut. But Robb, Estrin, bassist Markku Lappalainen, and drummer Chris Hesse are a better band now endless touring will do that. Lead single "Out of Control" lets Robb and Estrin shriek and shred with some reckless yet still melodic and ready for radio aggression.

These guys are polished, tight, just great. The title track is great, but not the best on the disc in my opinion. Just get the disc; it's worth it. I had this CD several years ago and loved it but I lost it. So happy to be able to replace it! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.

Report abuse. Bought as a gift for a music fan. Great music, many thanks. Bought this album for the title track, like it so much going to buy more of there albums. Have a listen you will like it, and 'The reason' is a powerful melody with great lyrics. Bought this cd as I like the song, the reason.

  7. For The Reason, those nice suburban Californians in Hoobastank refine and shade in the concentric circles of their self-titled debut, but stay safely within its platinum figure eight. "Crawling in the Dark" was the contoured heart of that album. Its combination of enormous rock chorus and elastic dreamboat vocals made Hoobastank stars and established their sound -- not original, but firmly 6/
